Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) joins others in the world today, Tuesday, 23rd March 2021 to mark World Meteorology Day.
World Meteorology Day 2021 is a registered activity of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the 2021 celebration is on the theme – The ocean, our climate, and weather.
It also marks the starting year of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) exists to provide efficient and reliable meteorological information by collecting, processing, archiving Analysing, and disseminating findings/meteorological information to end-users.
In other to prepare adequately for this year’s Seasonal forecast, GMA is urging the general public to harvest runoff water, desilt drains before the rains sets in, monitor water quality, and clean up communities through water drainage and gutter cleaning operations.
Deputy Director In charge of Research and Applied Meteorology, Madam Francisca Mattey explained that the total cumulative rainfall amount for March, April, May (MAM) both in time and space would be near normal to above for the East Coast and parts of the Coastal savanna areas of the country.
The areas she mentioned comprise, Aflao, Keys, Angloga, Ada, Tema, Ho, Koforidua, Akuse added that the West Coast, the Forest Zone, and the Transition zone experiences Normal rainfall.
She said April, May, and June (AMJ) rainfall is expected to have Near normal to Above Normal for both the East and West coast of the country.
The rest of the country, according to her, is expected to experience normal rainfall.
