Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, the former National Security Adviser, has affirmed that there has been much political interference in IGP work.
Speaking in an interview on Accra based radio station, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah disclosed that such positions are not meant for NDC or NPP hence whoever comes to power must know that such positions are answerable to the state and not to any political head.
He opposed that positions like CDR and IGP are not political positions, thus the fact that the government has the power to appoint them does not make them subservient to the politician therefore those holding such positions must be able to stand up and be firm to all and not yield to the President and party in power in a way that will affect the fairness and professional conduct.
“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh doesn’t have full control over the police and what is going on is scary. I have been in the Military before and I know how things work, there is too much political inference within the Police,” he stressed.
“Is about time we need to check these things out in order not to explode into a problem,” he added.
