The University of Ghana – Toyota Ghana School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre has been successfully commissioned at a grand ceremony held at the facility’s forecourt.
This state-of-the-art facility features classrooms, a multipurpose workshop, a body and paint facility and a delivery centre, equipped with essential engineering softwares.
The facility and its resources will be utilised by the University’s engineering students for practical lessons and stands as a testament to vital values of shared vision, commitment between industry and academia, and the significance of partnerships and continuity.
The training center and new Toyota branch, both supported by the company, are valued at $1 million.
The Centre has three modernized lecture rooms, a Computer-Aided Design room with 40 computers and a 3D printer, and a training workshop with automobile simulators, test rigs, and vehicle hydraulic lifts.
The Legon Toyota branch has a body and paint workshop, a service shop, spare parts sales, and a vehicle delivery centre.
Toyota Ghana also provided the University with a 30-seater Coaster bus that would transport students to and from the Centre.
As part of the engagement with the University, the company will provide $2 million in engineering equipment over a 10-year period, as well as $100,000 in scholarships over the same time.
The commissioning event was attended by distinguished guests, including Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education; Mr. Patrick Yaw Nimo, Chief Director, Ministry of Trade and Industry; Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo (Rtd.), Chair of the University Council; H.E. Hisanobu Mochizuki, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana; Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor; and Mr. Kohji Yanaka, CEO & MD of Toyota Ghana, among others.
