Ghana recorded 7,289 road crashes and 1,504 fatalities between January and June 2025, according to provisional statistics released by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in collaboration with the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
The data also shows that 12,354 vehicles were involved in various accidents during the six-month period, with 8,300 individuals sustaining injuries. Additionally, 1,301 pedestrians were reported to have been knocked down across the country.
Highlighting the ongoing crisis, the NRSA revealed the alarming daily averages:
8 lives lost each day due to road crashes
40 crashes occurring daily nationwide
46 people injured daily
69 vehicles and motorcycles involved in crashes every day
The NRSA has reiterated its call for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and enhanced public education to curb the growing number of road traffic incidents.
