A nationwide effort to combat meningitis is underway in the Upper West Region, with specialized training sessions being conducted for healthcare workers.
The National Response Team from Accra, made up of experts in case management, health promotion, laboratory services, and surveillance, is leading these critical sessions to empower frontline staff.
During a visit to the region, the Hon. Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Ag. Director-General of the Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, observed the final batch of training at the Nadowli Kaleo District Hospital.
The Director-General encouraged healthcare workers to remain committed to safeguarding public health, while the Hon. Minister emphasized the importance of customer-centered care, urging staff to serve with empathy.
As part of the visit, essential medicines for meningitis treatment were handed over to the Regional Health Directorate to support case management.
The team also visited the Nadowli District Hospital ward, where a meningitis case is receiving care, and engaged with management of Queen of Peace SHS in Nadowli.
The fight against meningitis requires a strong and well-equipped healthcare workforce, and these efforts are key to ensuring quality care for all.
