Two (2) armed robbers have been gunned down by Police on Nsawam to Amasaman road while planning to attack a private car.
The victims are alleged to be notorious robbers who operated mostly in Tema and its environs and were on the police wanted list.
According to the Police, on Tuesday, July 2021, it gathered intelligence about their planned attack hence trailed them in an unmarked private car.
The suspects who were on a motorbike upon seeing the police officers in a private car trailing them on Nsawam to Amasaman road opened fire at them which the police returned fire shooting the two.
“The Police stopped an armed robbery attack on a victim who was being trailed by two suspected armed robbers on a Royal motorbike.
The victim who says he had suspected from his mirror view that the motorbike riders were following him felt safe to park close to a private car, which unknown to him, was an unmarked car being used by Police to follow the pillion passenger, known as Suleman Alhassan alias MAN aged 35 for alleged involvement in series of robberies in Accra and Tema as part of surveillance on the suspect.
Suspect Suleman on seeing the police opened fire hitting the passenger side headlight of the unmarked car. The police returned fire hitting Suspect Suleman in his face. The rider was also shot to prevent his escape”.
A search on the suspect led to the retrieval of items including Bruni MOD 92 foreign pistol loaded with two live rounds.
The Royal Motorbike which they were using was also impounded.
