Two passengers have died while many were injured in a fatal accident involving two Mercedes Benz buses on the Akyem Asafo to Bunso stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highways of the Eastern Region.
The injured were rushed to hospitals whilst bodies of the deceased person deposit at the morgue.
The accident occurred Saturday at 11:00 pm.
The suspect driver yet to be identified as driving a Mercedes Benz sprinter bus with registration number GS 5523 – 17 with passengers on board and was traveling from Accra towards Kumasi direction.
However, on reaching a section of the road at Asafo Pechi junction near Akyem Asafo, he attempted to overtake a truck ahead of him but in the process crashed into the truck.
The impact forced the bus to turn facing Accra direction and as a result, crashed another Mercedes Benz sprinter bus with registration number GW 7324-20 which also had passengers on board.
Two persons died on the spot whilst passengers onboard both vehicles sustained injuries.
The acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sargeant Francis Gomado told mybrytmonline.com that, personnel from Ghana National Ambulance Service from Suhum and Kwabeng assisted in conveying the injured to Kibi and Enyiresi Government hospitals for treatment.
Suhum District patrol teams were at the scene to control traffic.
Bodies of the deceased persons conveyed to Suhum Government hospital mortuary identification, preservation, and autopsy.
The Damaged accident vehicles were towed to the Police station for testing.
