A devastating accident involving three vehicles on the Winneba-Cape Coast highway at Gomoa Otsew in the Central Region has left two people feared dead and several others injured.
The crash, which occurred on Friday, involved a Sprinter Benz Bus (GW 5064-24), a Honda Pilot SUV (DE 3440-13), and a Kia truck (GW 8308-21) transporting pineapples from Ekumfi Nanaben to Accra.
According to DO2 Anthony Kwesi Rhule, Apam District Fire Service Commander, the accident happened when the Honda Pilot attempted to overtake the Kia truck but collided head-on with the oncoming Sprinter Benz Bus.
“Two passengers from the vehicles are feared dead, while several others sustained serious injuries,” DO2 Rhule stated, adding that the crash could have been prevented if the Honda Pilot driver had exercised patience while overtaking.
Emergency services swiftly transported the injured to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
Authorities have begun clearing the mangled vehicles to restore traffic flow on the busy highway. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
