The Asamankese Circuit Court Presided Over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced two men, Kwasi Opoku and Emmanuel Bosompem to twelve years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing and Conspiracy.
Each of the accused persons will serve six years after pleading guilty to the charges.
Detective Chief Inspector M. Agbeko Novor, prosecution Officer told the Court that the complainant in this case, Obeng Festus is a journalist working with
ANANSE FM at Akyem Afosu near New Abirem whilst the Accused Persons, Kwasi Opoku and Emmanuel Bosompem are Driver’s mates and they are friends.
Kwasi Opoku lives at Akyem Ayirebi while Emmanuel Bosompem also lives at Akyem Edwafo.
On 09-02-2024, the complainant, went to a funeral with his unregistered Haojin motorbike
and returned home at about 2.30am the next day and parked the
motorbike in an uncompleted room in his house and went to sleep.
At about 3.30am of 10-02-2024, the complainant heard his dog barking
strangely and he woke up, peeped through his window but he did not see anything and so he went back to sleep again. At about 6.3 0am the
complainant finally woke up but when he tried to open his door, he could not because, it had been blocked from behind.
The complainant desperately shouted and called the neighbour who came to open the door
for him. It was at this stage that he detected that his motorbike had been stolen.
On same day, that is 10-02-2024 at about 9.1 5am, accused persons had sent the complainant’s motorbike to Akyem Topremang near Akwatia to
sell but in the course of bargaining, the would be buyer detected that the motorbike was not having an ignition key and so he suspected that it might have been stolen.
He therefore raised an alarm where accused persons were arrested and handed over to Akwatia police for investigation.
In the course of investigation, the complainant heard of the arrest of the accused persons and so he came and identified the motorbike as his. In their respective investigation cautioned statements, accused persons admitted the offences and after investigation, they were charged and brought before
this honourable court.
