Tanzanian police have arrested two opposition leaders on Monday, their party and local media said, as banned protests began in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.
Police had earlier blocked access to the homes of two key leaders from the Chadema party, who had vowed to continue protests despite an official ban.
The party accuses President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government of returning the country to the repressive tactics of her predecessor, John Magufui.
