The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced two people to two years and 60 days imprisonment in hard labour for stealing four pieces of cloth worth ¢160.00.
First accused, Kwabena Owusu was sentenced to two years imprisonment while the second accused, Adizatu Sheibu was also sentenced 60 days after they pleaded guilty for stealing.
Prosecution statement said the complainants, in this case, are Security men at Asamankese central market while accused persons are also traders in the same market.
According to the statement, First accused, Kwabena Owusu, on 29th February at about 1:00am jumped the fence wall of the market and entered a shop belonging to one Faustina Agbedanu and took away four pieces of cloth.
The accused, who was trying to escape, was nabbed by the security men at the market and he was handed over to the Asamankese Police for interrogation.
Upon investigation, the accused confessed that he stole some pieces of cloth from the same shop in early February and sold it to the second accused person, Adizuta Sheibu at ¢60.00.
Adizuta Sheibu, upon further investigation, admitted that she purchased the cloth from the first accused but was not aware that it was a stolen item but she was found guilty in the court and jailed 60 days imprisonment.
