Justice has not been served two years after the gruesome murder of 34-year-old aeronautic Engineer of African World Airlines.
The late Prince Kwabena Kumi left his home in Accra at about 3:00 pm on Saturday, 31st March 2018 to spend Easter with his mother in Asuboa in the Eastern Region, but never arrived. His body was found in a bush almost decomposing on Tuesday 3rd April 2018 between Akroso and Asuboa during a search.
Preliminary investigations by Police Investigators revealed that he was shot twice in 20 meters range in his jaw and his chest by unknown assailants.
Further investigations also revealed before his untimely death, the local police seized Prince’s car at Akroso, 20mins drive from Asuboa, alleging that he was driving carelessly under the influence of alcohol. It was further alleged that the local police assisted him to board a commercial vehicle to his village so that he could return to take away his car the next day.
The body of the slain Engineer was transferred from the Eastern Region to the Police Hospital in Accra for an autopsy but released to the family for burial on April 28, 2020.
Togbe Afede XIV, the founder and co-chairman of Africa World Airlines accompanied by the bereaved family led a delegation on April 11, 2020, to meet with then Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. David Asante-Apeatu to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.
On his part, Mr. Asante-Apeatu thanked Togbe Afede XIV for the honor of the visit and promised to work hard to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the engineer.
Four suspects including the driver of the commercial vehicle boarded by the deceased after his car was impounded but were discharged by Court for lack of evidence to incriminate them.
Speaking to mybrytfmonline.com Wednesday, April 8, 2020, Uncle of the murdered aeronautic Engineer, Nana Nkrumah Kumi expressed worry over the slow pace of investigation but said the family has been asked to have the patient as efforts are still underway to arrest the assailants.
