Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor was joined by the Minister for Defence, the Rt. Hon. Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and a Ghanaian delegation, led by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Ambrose Dery, MP, at the Consistory for the consecration and induction of His Eminence Richard Cardinal Kuuia Baawobr, Catholic Bishop of Wa Diocese, into the College of Cardinals.
The ceremony, which was presided over by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, was held at the St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and made Cardinal Baawobr the third Cardinal of our country, after the late Cardinal Dery and Cardinal Turkson.
As a Christian and devoted Catholic, the minister was honoured to have mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the company of the Archbishop of Tamale and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Philip Naameh, and the Bishop of the Diocese of my beloved Damongo, Most Rev. Peter Paul Yelezuome Angkyier.
He also had the rare opportunity to tour St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
Constructed in the 16th and 17th Centuries, the twenty thousand (20,000) capacity Basilica which houses the tomb of the first Pope, St. Peter, is one of the holiest temples of Christendom.
“We are grateful to the Holy Father for the honour done Ghana, and we took this great spiritual opportunity to intercede for our country to be great and strong” Mr Jinapor stated.
