The Right to Information (RTI) Commission has today, 8th November, 2023 paid a courtesy call on the Wa Naa, Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV, in the Upper West Region.
The purpose of the visit was to officially inform him about the Commission’s upcoming Regional Sensitisation Programme in Wa and seek his blessings.
The visit marked the first time the Commission has approached the Wa Naa and his sub-chiefs since its establishment in 2019.
The Wa Naa graciously welcomed the Commission and expressed his excitement at the honor bestowed upon him by the presence of the Commission.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Yaw Sarpong Boateng Esq., briefed the Wa Naa and his chiefs on the Commission’s mandate and ongoing work. He also praised the warm hospitality extended by the Wa Naa Palace.
In a remarkable display of support and goodwill, the Wa Naa praised the Commission for its efforts and suggested the establishment of an office in Wa. He pledged to offer a piece of land to facilitate this endeavor, highlighting his commitment to facilitating transparency and access to information in the Upper West Region.
As a sign of acceptance and gratitude, the Wa Naa Palace further extended the symbolic offering of cola nut to the Governing Board, management, and staff of the Commission.
It is heartening to witness the recognition and appreciation shown by the Wa Naa and his council towards the Commission. Their willingness to provide tangible support, such as land allocation, is a testament to their commitment to transparency and accountability.
The establishment of an office in Wa would improve accessibility and uphold the Commission’s mission to facilitate the right to information. This gesture also sets a precedent for other regions to follow, as local support is integral to the successful implementation of the RTI Act.
The RTI Commission’s Regional Sensitisation Programme in Wa promises to be an impactful initiative. By raising awareness and educating citizens about their right to information, the Commission aims to empower individuals and promote good governance.
The Commission also visited the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council to call on the Minister, Hon. Hafiz Bin Salih. The Chief Director, Mr. Peter M. Maala who received the Commission on behalf of the Minister assured the Commission of the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment towards the implementation of Act 989 in the Upper West Region and pledged their support towards the Public Lecture that will be held on November 9, 2023 at the Jaha College of Education in Wa.
