The Faculty of Science Education (FSE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has received a donation of GH₵70,000 from the Head of the Department of Agricultural Science, Dr Joseph Kobina Essibu, to support research and infrastructure development within the faculty.
Dr Essibu, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Ideal College and Ideal FM, made the donation to enhance practical teaching, learning and research in agricultural science. The funds will be used to reconstruct and equip the agricultural science laboratory and to establish a goat rearing facility to support hands-on training for students.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony, Dr Essibu said the donation was driven by his desire to strengthen practical-oriented education and improve students’ exposure to modern agricultural practices. “Agricultural science education must go beyond theory. Providing functional laboratories and livestock facilities is essential to producing competent teachers and professionals who can contribute meaningfully to national development,” he stated.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science Education expressed profound gratitude to Dr Essibu for the timely intervention, noting that the project would significantly improve the quality of practical lessons and research within the department. “This support will greatly enhance our capacity to deliver effective practical training and promote applied research among our students and staff,” the Dean said.
According to faculty officials, the proposed goat rearing facility will serve as a demonstration and research centre for students, allowing them to gain practical experience in animal husbandry, breeding, feeding and farm management. It is also expected to support student projects and community outreach programmes.
University authorities have commended Dr Essibu for his commitment to educational development and innovation, describing the donation as a model of staff-led support for institutional growth. They further encouraged alumni, corporate bodies and other stakeholders to partner with the university in advancing infrastructure and research development.
