Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has agreed to plans by a Chinese company to turn Luzira Maximum Prison into a luxurious five-star hotel.
The Tian Tang company will relocate the prison to another place at their cost.
There have been proposals in the past to build a detention facility with a capacity of 10,000 inmates to help decongest the prisons.
Luzira Prisons, whose capacity is 1,700 inmates, currently holds over 7,700 inmates.
