Uganda Bans UN Human Rights Office From The Country

Uganda has said it will not renew the mandate of the United Nations human rights office in the country.

In a letter sent by Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the government said the country has enough strong institutions as well as civil society to monitor the human rights situation.

Human rights organizations and the opposition have both criticized the decision.
