The Ugandan government is trying to rescue at least 22 Ugandan citizens being held captive in Myanmar.
They were trafficked there for work. The victims, who are 17 men and five women, were recruited by “local leaders” in the suburbs of the capital, Kampala.
They are between 22 and 30.
They reportedly thought they were being recruited to be employed in supermarkets in Thailand and to do other casual or domestic work, but ended up in Myanmar.
