Three Ugandan ruling party legislators have been charged with corruption.
It is alleged that they sought to influence the state-funded Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) chairperson to inflate the organization’s 2024/25 budget.
In return, the lawmakers hoped to receive 20 percent of the inflated budget.
The three pleaded not guilty and were remanded to a maximum security prison.
Last week, President Yoweri Museveni said he received intelligence that some lawmakers were conniving with officials from government departments to inflate their budgets in exchange for a commission.
