The United Nations has appointed Dr. Anita Antwiwaa Head of Operations for All Nations University Space Systems Laboratory and Head of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering as a member of United Nations Space4women Network Mentor for 2020-2021. She is among eight female Space Engineers appointed globally.
Space4Women is a project of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) to promote women’s empowerment in space.
UNOOSA is aimed at addressing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and work towards the 2030 Agenda, ensure that the benefits of space reach women and girls and that women and girls play an active and equal role in space science, technology, innovation, and exploration.
Space4Women encourages women and girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and raises awareness about career opportunities and the importance of gender equality and empowerment in the space sector.
Management of the University in a congratulatory message said: “All Nations University is proud of you.”
Dr. Anita Antwiwaa is a certified Engineer with a Ph.D. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), India.
Her interests include; Women in STEMI Education, Entrepreneurial STEM Education for the next generation, Satellite Communication among others. She serves as one of the representatives for Ghana at the Global Earth Observation (GEO) program Board.
She was the Advisor for Women in Engineering (IEEE- ANUC Chapter) in 2013.
She is currently the Head of Operations for All Nations University Space Systems Technology Laboratory (SSTL). She was instrumental in the successful launching of the historic GhanaSat-1 in 2017 to take photographs of the Earth and to monitor Ghana’s coastal areas.
Dr. Anita Antwiwaa was the winner of the 2019 Space in Africa Essay Competition.
