Dr. Joseph Obeng, president of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), refuted the notion that the lack of employment is the main reason of the youth unemployment rate.
Speaking on Monday’s episode of Badwam on Adom TV, he said that a lack of skills is to blame for the high rate of young unemployment.
“We employ so many people. The truth is that the moral fibre of our society is broken, and it must be fixed. Ghanaian youth are not employable. It’s not that there are no jobs. There is no skill enhancement for the youth, giving foreigners more advantage in the various industries,” he said.
According to the GUTA President, the business sector in Ghana would flourish and grow as a result of changing workers’ attitudes and reorienting their thinking.
Manasseh Atta Boamah, a spokeswoman on the economy who appeared on the program, claimed that the government has taken deliberate measures to lower the unemployment rate.
He said that over time, the government had given young people who wanted to launch their own enterprises the knowledge and resources they needed.
