The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has announced an indefinite industrial strike, set to begin on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
TUSAAG maintains that the allowance—designed to support administrators in conducting research and publishing work required for career progression—is not a privilege but a formally negotiated entitlement. The association says the continued non-payment represents a “blatant breach of agreement” and signals a lack of regard for the critical role senior administrators play in Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
According to the group, months of engagements with key government bodies, including the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), have produced no meaningful results. Attempts to secure meetings with the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, through letters and formal requests for dialogue, have either been ignored or indefinitely postponed.
The strike will result in a total shutdown of administrative operations across all 10 Technical Universities. Key units—including finance, admissions, examinations, human resources, registry, and general administration—are expected to come to a standstill until the outstanding allowances are settled.
Despite the firm stance, TUSAAG says it remains open to genuine and immediate negotiations, stressing that the industrial action is intended to compel the government to address concerns that repeated appeals have failed to resolve.
