Accra, March 27, 2025 – The National Security Council Secretariat has formally requested the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to assist in evacuating 706 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The directive, issued by National Security Coordinator Osman Abdul-Razak, aims to transfer the containers to the National Security Council Secretariat’s warehouse in Abelemkpe.
In a confidential letter addressed to the Director-General of GPHA, Abdul-Razak also requested the suspension of all port charges on the containers until ongoing investigations are concluded.
The letter, which was copied to the Minister of Transport and the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), indicates that the evacuation is a matter of national security. However, specific details on the nature of the investigations were not disclosed.
This development raises questions about the contents of the containers and the reasons for their extended stay at the port. It remains unclear how long the investigations will take and whether ECG will face any penalties related to the shipment.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders in the energy and transport sectors will be monitoring for further updates.

The directive comes in the wake of ongoing investigations into missing or unaccounted-for containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). For months, concerns have been raised over the disappearance or delayed clearance of essential electrical equipment intended for national power distribution.
Reports indicate that irregularities in procurement and clearance processes may have contributed to financial losses and disruptions in the electricity supply chain.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
