The Eastern Regional Coordinator of the Nation Builders Corps, also known as N.A.B.C.O, Alhaji Seidu Opass has charged beneficiaries to use the second opportunity given to them to upgrade them in Education.
According to him, although the beneficiaries were given a monthly allowance of ¢700.00 only most were able to save to further their Education with their First Degree.
In an interview with Nkonim FM’s Kofi Atakora, the Eastern Region coordinator said most people with Certificates and Diploma were considered in some modules of NABCO, but they should save and seek for at least first Degree to give them chances in the future.
Following a high-level stakeholder meeting with the lead of Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) module implementation partners led by the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawia, and Chief of staff, Akosua Frema Opare, all NABCO beneficiaries are to remain at the post.
In line with preparation after three years on the scheme, all Beneficiaries will remain at post pending permanent arrangements.
Alhaji Seidu Opass however lauded the Government for giving the beneficiaries another chance and charged them to justify their inclusion in a permanent job.
According to him, the NABCO secretariat has groomed trainees for the job market and in the Eastern Region; about 2,000 got permanent jobs within the three-year contract.
He said,7,712 graduates were recruited under NABCO in the region but as of 31st October 2021, the number reduced to 5,015 because most had permanent jobs, adding, the Government currently owes beneficiaries September and October but payment is under processing and will soon be paid by Finance Ministry.
The focus of the NABCO initiative was to solve public service delivery in health, education, agriculture, technology, governance, and drive revenue mobilization and collection.
The objectives of the program are to:
Provide temporary employment to unemployed graduates
Improve skills and employability for the transition from program to permanent employment
Improve public service delivery
Improve on government revenue mobilization
To provide needed infrastructure to improve access to basic public services
This new scheme – the Nation Builders Corps recognizes the role played by other pathways that currently exist under various government institutions and agencies.
Among the existing Ministries, Department, and Agencies which schemes addressed youth unemployment include: the Ministry for Business Development, Ministry for Local Government and Rural Administration, the National Vocational and Technical Institute (NVTI), Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), the National Youth Authority (NYA), and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) to cite some examples. In particular, the YEA has affected, positively, the lives of many non-tertiary graduates through the innovative modules that have continued to engage lots of young people. In the case of the NABCO, the distinguishing element would be its concentration on addressing the growing phenomenon of unemployment and disillusionment among young people leaving tertiary institutions.
Under the program, graduates will be trained, equipped with the necessary work tools, and deployed around the country to engage in the following programs:
Educate Ghana
Heal Ghana
Feed Ghana
Revenue Ghana
Digitize Ghana
Civic Ghana
Enterprise Ghana
