The Member of Parliament for Upper West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region who doubles as Deputy Minister for Transport, Honourable Frederick Adom Obeng has launched Teacher Prize and Students Quiz competition dubbed “A motivated Human Resource in Holistic Educational Development”.
According to the MP who for the first time since 1992 won the Constituency seat for the NPP said the maiden Awards, Quiz and debate will begin on 23rd December 2021 and will continue annually to motivate Teachers and Students to improve Teaching and learning in the area.
Speaking at the launch, Honourable Frederick Adom Obeng said under the scheme, there will be Science and Mathematics quiz for Basic School, Independence day quiz and debate for Secondary Schools, District level Teachers awards which will feature
Best Teacher in Kindergarten, Primary, Junior High School, and Senior High School.
Honorable Adom Obeng added that Best English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, French, Information, and Communication Technology Teachers will also be awarded, together with Best Non-Teaching and District Education Office best staff award and for the beginning, overall best Teacher will receive a motorcycle and other incentives and the packages will improve as time goes on.
He added that, from 2022, all students in Junior High School will receive Mathematical Set annually and a cash price of ¢1,000.00 for six students who perform very well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) yearly.
District Chief Executive, Honourable Eugene Kwabena Sackey who chaired the launching lauded the MP for the initiative and pledged his support for it to be extraordinary in Eastern Region.
Moreover, the Human Resource manager at the Upper West Akyem District Education Office, Mr. Eugene Debrah has welcomed the initiative by the MP and said this promise was made by the MP in December 2020 and was optimistic that it will motivate both Teachers and Students to improve Education in the District.
