The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer for the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Emmanuel Agbesi Foli, has assured all customers his outfit will monitor utility providers as the implementation of the tariff increment as it starts tomorrow September 1, 2022.
He promised customers that PURC will check the operation of the utility companies tamely and make sure that all the right things are being done.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Nartey Solomon of Bryt Fm, Agbesi Foli pleaded with all customers to report any qualm by utility companies to any PURC.
The increment follows the proposal by the utility companies including the Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Water Company Limited for an adjustment in tariffs by 148% and 334% respectively.
The PURC had earlier explained that the decision was arrived at after rigorous analysis and extensive consultations with industry players, as well as an assessment of the economic conditions of consumers.
The Electricity Company of Ghana in a statement hasd also urged cherished customers to take charge of their personal consumption by conserving energy which will lead to spending less on electricity.
Meanwhile, a section of the public have expressed mixed reactions to the new development as many were of the view Government could have intervened due to the current economic crises.
