“It was terrifying.I am 63years I have stayed in this community for 30years never witnesses such a rainstorm. It was scary at a point I wanted to come out because I thought my building was about collapsing on me “. A terrified resident of Koforidua Two -streams community shared her horrible experience.
Checks from the streets of some communities Thursday morning observed many temporal structures have either collapsed or ripped off.
Information gathered from emergency room of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) reveals many reports of havoc caused by the rainstorm in parts of the region.
NADMO officials are expected to follow up for assessments this morning to provide data on the extent of wreckage caused by the horrifying rainstorm.
Dr.Kwaku Adu, an Environmentalist and Lecturer at University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) in Bunso says more of such storms should be expected in the coming years due to climate change effects.
He said human activities such as deforestation continue to affect the climate triggering disasters such as violent rainstorms and hurricanes.
He however advised residents to plant trees around their houses to serve as windbreaks to mitigate impact of such rainstorm on their buildings and properties.
