Members of the Community Watchdog Committee at Simpoa in Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region have arrested suspect herdsman who allegedly gunned down a farmer at Gyaniboafo, a farming community in Kwahu Afram Plains South District.
The suspect-Umaru Sanda, 19, was arrested after a fierce gun battle with members of the Watchdog Committee on March 7, 2020 ar his hideout. He was first handed over to the Abetifi Police before finally transferred to Tease Police station in Afram Plains.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the arrest to Mybrytfmonline.com.
The deceased-Hardi Zakaria, 40, and his two brothers were reportedly pursuing to arrest the suspect after his cattle destroyed their harvested tubers yam on the fateful day of March 1, 2020.
The deceased, a Dagomba, from the Nothern Region was on a visit to his brother-owner of the farm.
His body has been deposited for preservation and autopsy at the Presbyterian Hospital morgue in Donkorkrom.
The District Chief Executive for Afram Plains South, George Ofori, and last week appealed to Dagombas in the community who were threatening to launch a reprisal attack on the Herdsmen to remain calm as effort intensified for the search of the suspect.
