Five schools in the Krobo and Asuogyaman districts in Eastern Region
are still grappling with a water crisis due to disconnection by Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) over unpaid bills.
The disconnection exercise took place in November 2023 but schools still not reconnected to GWCL services due to failure to pay the bills apart from Krobo Girls which has settled its debt of Ghc590,000 through the Ghana Education Service.
The five other schools without water are Yilo Krobo SHS, Krobo Girls SHS, Anum Presby SHS, Anum Presby Vocational Institute, Boso Senior High Technical, and Akro Senior High Technical Schools.
Akro Senior High Technical School remains indebted to GWCL with an outstanding amount of Ghc700,000.
The consequence of this prolonged disconnection is that students are compelled to endure extended queues at on-campus boreholes for essential activities like drinking, cooking, cleaning, washing, and more.
Students are expressing their concerns about the detrimental effects of the water crisis on their studies and are urgently appealing for government intervention to address the situation and ensure the restoration of water services.
This predicament underscores the challenges faced by educational institutions in settling utility bills and the broader impact of such disconnections on the academic pursuits and well-being of students.
The affected schools and students are eagerly awaiting swift resolution and government assistance to alleviate the ongoing water crisis.
