The issue of illegal mining (galamsey) seems to be gaining enough attention as organised labour is determined to embarked a nationwide strike come Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Speaking with Kwamina Sam Biney, the Bushman on BRYT Adekyee Mu Nsem on Bryt fm, Professor Edward Abavare, KNUST UTAG president insisted government has failed in the fight against the canker and therefore must proceed on their intended strike to wake up authorities in power to act as expected.
He cautioned the effects of illegal mining would be unbearable if steps are not taken immediately to ensure water bodies, lands and forest reserves are protected from destruction.
He also argued of health effects it would have on Ghanaians in the coming years as most water bodies and lands for food production have been polluted.
Professor Edward Abavare therefore called on Ghanaians to support the fight against illegal mining in order to avert the future consequences.
Organised labour refused to accept government offer after a meeting on Monday and went ahead to remind members of it’s intended strike.
Meanwhile, the ministry of information has released a statement describing the intention of organised labour as unfortunate and in bad fate.
