The Ghana Football Association will make a decision on whether to continue or end the 2019/20 season following advice from the government.
The GFA President, Kurt Okraku disclosed talks are ongoing between the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders on the way forward for the current campaign.
Following President Nana Akuffo Addo’s directive, sporting activities in the country have been put to a halt due to the COVID-19 outbreak which has also affected sports across the globe.
But the German Bundesliga is scheduled to resume this weekend with other countries like Hungary, Czech, Croatia, Serbia, Israel and Portugal also set for football to return this month.
Due to the development, many have questioned Ghana’s approach to the situation to ensure the premier league resumes in coming days.
In a zoom cloud interview on the effect of coronavirus on Ghana’s sports industry, he affirmed that the FA have not decided on the fate of the Ghana Premier League.
“As we speak, there’s no decision as to whether the Ghana Premier League would be canceled or not. We are still in talks”
“If we are to cancel the league, it will be another trying period for players, clubs, referees and everybody involved in football”
“I don’t have the exact figures as to how much revenue clubs will lose if the league is canceled. But you don’t expect sponsors to continue sponsoring when there are no football activities” he said.
