Awuah Numapaw, the Eastern Regional Deputy Director for Electoral commission has explained the reason why the ballot paper for the December presidential election would be the same despite the demise of the founder of the Ghana Freedom Party, late madam Akua Donkor.
During an interview on Bryt fm Adekyee Mu Nsem with host Kwamina Sem Biney on Thursday, November 14, 2024, he noted “Even though it’s our first time using printed ballot paper in an election with a picture of one deceased candidate. If it were to be a parliamentary candidadte, we could have done something about it but with the residential, there is nothing we can do” Mr Awuah Numapaw stated.
According to Mr Awuah Numapaw, the issue of time, cost of the nation and disqualification of the candidate to replace the late madam Akua Donkor are the major reasons to the commission’s stand.
Mr. Awuah Numapaw concluded that, “With the laws binding our activities, we can’t even print different ballot paper There’s no time for us to print another paper for GFP again”.
His comments comes following a request by Kofi Akpaloo for the EC to remove or black out image of the late GFP leader from the ballot paper for the December presidential elections.
