Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are appealing to the Government and management of the Ghana Identification Authority (Ghana card) to as matter of urgency release cards of it members after 1-2 years of registration.
According to the group, most PWDs cannot have access to banking and other services due to lack of the Ghana card as Government since 1st July, 2022 instructed the Ghana card as only identification for bank transactions.
Mr. Samuel Sarpong Boateng, the Eastern Regional chairman of PWDs revealed members in the New Juaben North municipality are now stranded as they are unable to withdraw cheques presented to them by the Assembly as their share of the Common Fund.
He stressed that, the bank has refused to accept receipts of registration for the Ghana card and are therefore no other means for collection of their monies.
Mr. Sarpong Boateng stated several attempt to get the Ghana cards have yielded no results and that has made it difficult for persons with disabilities.
Asked whether his outfit has contacted the NIA office to inquire as to why the cards are delayed, Mr. Samuel Sarpong Boateng replied that several calls to their office comes with no better response.
