Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that President Akufo-Addo-led administration has abolished eighteen (18) taxes to ease the suffering of Ghanaians.
According to him, the abolition of the eighteen taxes by President Akufo- Addo led administration is the first in the history of our republic
Speaking at a forum attended by TESCON, the student’s wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Pentecost Conventional Centre, Dr Bawumia stated that the introduction of the Electronic Levy is purposely aimed to strengthen the economy amidst the consequences of the Ukraine and Russia war.
He attributed the current hardships in the country’s economy to the ongoing geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine.
Dr Bawumia indicated that some measures have been introduced by the government to ameliorate the hardship the people are encountering.
He indicated that the price of wheat has shot up by 62 per cent since the war began adding that the price of fertilizer is up by 300 per cent, and the price of maize is up by 36 per cent since the war began.
“Here in Ghana 60 per cent of our total imports of iron ore and steel are from Ukraine,’’ said Dr Bawumia.
