The Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company Ghana (ECG), Madam Sekyewaa Mensa, has explained that the company has shut down the power supply to protect lives and property.
According to the Regional Public Relations Officer, the Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo communities are experiencing darkness because ECG residents aren’t ready to pay their bills.
She affirmed that it is mandated for ECG to provide safe, quality, and reliable electricity, but the supplement of power can cause fire outbreaks to the Krobo communities.
Madam Sekyewaa Mensa averred that the ECG had planned to create a district for the Juapong area before the Kroboland saga.
Speaking on the brouhaha of both parties (ECG and Kroboland), Madam Sekyewaa Mensa disclosed that they want to protect the lives of the customers.
“The Kroboland has destroyed the transformers that supplied power, and we have reported them to police for investigation,’’ Madam Sekyewaa Mensa told Abena Opokua Ahwenie on Dadi FM.
Madam Sekyewaa Mensa added that their demonstration on the saga has created a huge inconvenience for other innocent customers in the area.
But the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has explained in a statement why there is dumsor in the Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo communities in the Eastern Region.
According to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which recently relocated from the area to Juapong in the Volta Region, the situation is due to the activities of some persons who had transferred customers facing problems onto an adjacent transformer.
The said transformer seems to be suffering overloads, according to ECG, and, thus, destroying several other transformers within the area.
In the statement, the ECG assured of an ongoing engagement with traditional authorities to “find a lasting solution to address the various issues, particularly the insecurity which does not permit us to operate in the district office at Somanya”.
