The National Commission for Civil Education, NCCE, and an agency of Government of Ghana responsible for public education on civic matters has come under criticism for not living up to expectation in creating awareness on the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the commission says it is struggling to have logistics to intensify awareness of the disease across the country.
According to the Commission, but for the release of twelve (12) fueled Cinema Vans by The Church of Pentecost to the commission on March 25, 2020, to be used for four weeks, it had only two Cinema Vans for its activities across the Country.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of NCCE, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, in an interview on Ghone TV, said, the Commission has submitted its budget and logistics needed to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID-19 but yet to receive any support.
Notwithstanding these logistical constraints, she said, NCCE is improvising moving round communities in the Greater Accra region to create awareness in various local dialects but at a slow pace due to inadequate vans.
Concerns have been raised over the high level of ignorance and disinformation on COVID-19 among the populace of Ghana particularly lower class which threatens efforts to combat the disease.
Ghana has recorded 205 confirmed cases of Coronavirus as of April 3, 2020, with 5 deaths.
