The General Secretary for Mortuary Workers Association, Richard Kofi Jordan has pleaded with Ghanaians not to abandon their old corpse at the mortuary due to a ban on funerals.
According to him, they have realized families have begun canceling their funerals which is very wrong because it is still possible to organize private funerals so families should not neglect their corpses else the mortuary may start rejecting new corpses.
“We’ve realized people have started canceling their funerals, we all know that our mortuaries are not that accommodating, they are very small in terms of space so if this continues it won’t help us at all”, he said.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee on Dadi FM, 101.1, he added that, if the mortuaries are full or stocked up it can aid in the spread of the disease because the place is not spacious enough.
He also advised the public to desist from having any physical connection with their deceased bodies, he said that people should not kiss, touch, or even try to lie on the deceased because it can cause danger and is unhealthy.
“You should know that your dead family member or friend is no longer living and you might not know what led to the person’s death so try as much as possible to desist from those acts because if you do that you will end up spreading the virus if it turns out the deceased was infected”, he advised.
