The Board Chairman for Ghana Water Company Limited and the Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei Central Constituency, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah has stated that government needs dedicated security officials to fight illegal mining in the country.
To him, Ghana does not have patriotic people to find a lasting solution to combat the menace of illegal mining.
Hon. Patrick Boamah said that there is a need for rethinking and redesigning a comprehensive strategy to fight the course.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament and monitored by mybrytfmonline.com, Hon. Patrick Boamah indicated that the Ghana Water Company has increased its budget in the procurement of chlorine and other chemicals to purify water to serve Ghanaians.
“The cost of water production to serve communities and households has increased more than sixty percent (60%),’’ said Hon. Patrick Boamah.
“We are adopting different strategies at the various head works to ensure safe water,” he added.
Hon. Patrick Boamah disclosed that the government has invested more than a half of billion dollars between 2017 to 2023 in the water sector.
He stated that some citizens are destroying the country’s water bodies for money and selfish gains, leaving the dangers to the fate of government.
