The West Akyem Municipal Assembly in the Eastern region has inaugurated a revenue mobilization task force to maximize revenue collection in the Municipality.
Inaugurating the task force, the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Oduro Boad said, the Revenue Taskforce is part of its well-thought-through Revenue mobilization strategies stated in its main Revenue Improvement Action Plan (RIAP) for 2021 fiscal year and grounded in the existing legal framework and regulations. Section 12 (3a) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), places the responsibility for the overall development of the District on the head of the Assembly, West Akim Municipal.
As a result of this, section 12 (3b) tasks the Assembly to come out with requisite Plans, Programmes, and Strategies aimed at effective mobilization of the needed resources to enable it to carry out the development agenda.
Also, the IGF Reference Guide, 2019 found expression for the Assembly revenue drive and strategies for the 2021 financial year.
Consequently, the Internally-Generated Fund (IGF) Technical Team as spelled out in the IGF Reference Guide, 2019 document was earlier in the year formed and duly inaugurated by management in the Assembly. It is there to provide, all the technical support to the Revenue Taskforce.
The Taskforce was carefully selected with due diligence with regards to individual expertise and efficiency in group performance as exhibited over the years. And more importantly, security from the municipal police department will come in handy as key stakeholders in this body.
The Taskforce Team among others is to enforce and ensure general education and sensitization particularly, on revenue matters, development control measures in the municipality, compliance of rules and regulations governing the setting up of businesses, and the requisite documentation thereof.
