The delegates from the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) from the Western and Western North region today on April 5, 2023, chose new personnel for the 2022/2023 national service year.
90 out of the 120 delegates that were supposed to be at the meeting came to cast their ballot.
The names put forward for the presidential roles were; Micheal Awini Atiiga ( Bia West NASPA President), Hon. Stephen Asmah ( Manso Amenfi West NASPA President) and Hon.Nana Adu Gyamfi Mensah ( Mpohor NASPA Vice President ).
From the 90 total ballots, Hon.Nana Adu Gyamfi Mensah was chosen for president with 33 votes, and Stephen Asmah and Hon.Micheal Awini Atiiga got 31 and 26, respectively.
Three delegates vied for the Vice President position and Honourable Derick Oduro (NASPA President Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai) secured 41 votes to become the Vice President.
Sarfo Joseph Kobina, the honourable General Secretary from Shama district, triumphed over his opponents Hon.Gorden Bonnah (Sefwi Akontombra NASPA President), Hon.Acheampong Emmanuella (Prestea Huni-Valley General Secretary), and Hon.Abeka Helena Helinda (Tarkwa Nsuaem General Secretary) by obtaining a total of 35 votes.
Hon. Emmanuella Fafa Mawuenyegah (Bia West NASPA Financial Secretary) was victorious in the Financial Secretary race, garnering 37 votes compared to her opponent Hon. Barnabas Odoom’s (Sekondi-Takoradi NASPA Financial Secretary) 33 votes.
Shaikh Isifu Abendaw (Sefwi Juaboso/Bodi President) was voted Regional Organizing Secretary after he got 58 votes, as opposed to Hon.Philp Annin ( Tarkwa Nsuaem President) who had 32.
Hon.Maabol Helina (Prestea Huni-Valley Women Commissioner) beat Hon.Addae Rose of Sefwi Wiawso Women Commissioner with 44 votes against 32 votes in the Regional Women Commissioner election.
The regional Director of national service scheme, Mr. Okatakyie Amankwa Afrifa said in his speech that the batch of executives stand a better chance of performing extraordinarily since they have been divided equally three from the Western and other three from the Western North.
He disclosed that by next year, members within the Western North will have their own secretariat.
He admonished the Service personnels to be dedicated and hardworking in their line of duty.
This, according to him, would prepare and allow them to learn on the job as well as gain first-hand experience from the business world.
“I advise you all to focus on the work that will be assigned to you and desist from bad working attitudes, such as laziness and lateness. Over here, work begins exactly at 8:30 am and closes at 5 pm. You do not have to use your location as an excuse and then get here late. Even though it is your national service, you should put in more effort,” he added.
He explained that the National Service Programme was an opportunity for personnel to render their services and prove how patriotic they are to the Nation.
The president elect Hon.Nana Adu Gyamfi Mensah hinted that the campaign messages of the contenders who could not make it to their intended positions would be considered where necessary in drawing of the action plan.He thanked all delegates and wished them a happy Easter.
