A major challenge often faced by ambitious youth who venture into skills training is how to acquire start-up equipment to begin their various trades after successfully completing years of training.
After graduating from the training, some of them who are able to receive support from their parents and other family relations are able to acquire their start-up tools for their respective businesses.
Some who do not get the needed support are often left to their fate, while others due to lack of support to acquire the basic equipment often fail to utilise the skills gained and venture into other enterprises.
As a major step to address this challenge confronting the youth, the Bibiani-Anhwiaso -Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Western North Region led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon.Paul Andoh has presented sewing machines and electronic portable welding machine worth thousands of Ghana cides to start-up their own business.
The support was given under the auspices of the support for self-employable skills which form part of the government and the municipal assembly’s Local Economic Development (LED) agenda.
It was sourced from the assembly’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), as the assembly recognises LED as a strategy to fully harness the economic potential of the area for job creation, improvement of livelihoods and poverty reduction.
In his address, the MCE hon.Paul Andoh encouraged unemployed youth in the Municipality to venture into handwork, and that it has huge prospects.
For the beneficiaries, he tasked them to make very good use of the items.
He further urged residents of the area to have confidence in the Nana Akuffo-Addo and the Member of Parliament for the area Lawyer Alfred Obeng Boateng and avoid doubt it pledges.
“Let’s endeavor to end the doubting syndrome in us as Ghanaians and take advantage of the great pro-poor interventions implemented by the Nana-Addo/BAWUMIA NPP administration”.
Nana Agyeman Duah Prempeh II, the Municipal Director of Business Advisory Center (BCA) under the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) on his part said some of the beneficiaries were having issues in their business due to theft incidents that had been reported in their stores.
He also task be beneficiaries to make good use of the items.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and assured the Municipalj in Assembly and the MCE that they would put the items to good use.
