The National Democratic Congress NDC Women’s Wing in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai of the Western North Region has Organized a breast cancer awareness and free medical screening event for hundreds of women in the constituency.
The event was put together by the constituency Women’s Organizer, Madam Adizatu Mohammed and her deputy Mrs.Linda Asamoah Twum in collaboration with Green Army Ladies (GAL) to commemorate the breast cancer awareness month taking place this October across the world.
Mrs.Oteng Alberta, a senior staff nurse at the Bibiani Government Hospital speaking with Hamza Mohammed after the program, said many have died as victims of breast cancer because they did not go for early treatment.
She explained that the sucking and massaging of breast by men does not prevent a woman from having a breast cancer.
She said the disease is a serious one and must not be trivialised with such a notion on social media.
Rather, the massaging and examination will help to detect a lump early if it forms within the breast.
“The fact that one’s breast is being sucked or massaged doesn’t mean that she cannot have breast cancer, and it will not also remove the cancer from the breast, as some people say.”
“It is like joking about it. This is a serious disease. Sucking off the breast and massaging it will not prevent a woman from getting breast cancer,” she added.
Madam Adizatu Mohammed, the Women Organizer called on women within the constituency to continue attending to the hospital whenever they experience such diseases.
Mrs.Linda Asamoah Twum, the deputy Women Organizer on her part added that the women wing have supported needy schools within the constituency with Sanitary Pads and this time they are helping mothers to know their health status in teams of the deadly breast cancer.
She used the opportunity to appeal to husbands not to run away from the wives in case they experience such diseases.
Beneficiaries thanked the NDC Women’s Wing for such education and free screening.
