Western North: Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai NDC Women’s Wing Supports School Girls With Sanitary Pads

The women’s wing of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented sanitary pads to about 600 school girls in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

The gesture is to help manage their monthly periods safely, hygienically, and without shame.

The beneficiaries were girls from 15 Junior High School in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, that is, Fahiakobo Anglican, Chirano M/A, Ashiam M/A, Nyetina M/A, Asempanaye M/A Awaso Anglican, Surano M/A, Akaso M/A, Subri M/A, Bassengely M/A, Betheleham M/A , Kunkumso M/A , Humjibre M/A, Adupri M/ and Manse M/A.

Maa Adizatu Mohammed , the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency Women’s organizer of the NDC, led a team to present the items to the girls on behalf of the women’s wing of the party.

She took the opportunity to advise the girls on menstrual hygiene and admonished them to take issues of their menstrual flow seriously.

Speaking to the media after the presentation, Maa Adiza called on the government to scrap all taxes on the importation of menstrual products to enable women and girls, in particular, to buy them during their menstrual cycle.

“ We are praying that come 2024 general elections former President John Dramani Mahama will win and scrapped income and import taxes on sanitary pads in the country to make it easier for young girls, especially in this part of the country to be able to afford it,” she said.

Madam Gloria Williams, the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Girl Child Education Officer on her part, thanked the woman wing of the NDC for such support.

She said because of the hikes in prices of the Sanitary Pads, some girls are compelled to give themselves out to men just to have money to buy these pads and she believes this initiative will reduce teenage pregnancy in the Municipality.

She urged beneficiaries to disposed it off well after use.
