The Ghana COCOBOD and Government has indicated that it is assiduously preparing the grounds for cocoa farmers so that they can get the required yield and tones to be sold out on the international market for foreign exchange.
In a sensitisation program held at Sefwi Bekwai, in the Bibiani Anhwianso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, the District Cocoa Health and Extension Division Manager (CHED), Mr Frank Amamoo Antwi, stated that COCOBOD is for all cocoa farmers in the country irrespective of one’s political affiliations and farmers to allow their farmers to be sprayed.
In an interview with Kwame Kontor Boateng of Lord FM, he stated the sensitisation lectures has been successful and that farmers have gained a lot and will be inculcated into their work, which will be done by the mass spraying personnel to yield more results.
Mr Antwi added that they met the sprayers and supervisors to educate them on how to use the right amount of chemicals and the harmful dangers associated with some of the chemicals.
Mr Joseph Kusi, the Coordinator for Cocoa Health and Extension Division Officer, Sefwi Bekwai, explained the need for the Government and COCOBOD to subsidise prices of fertilizers given to the cooperatives and also appealed to farmers to settle their debt so that they can also apply for more fertilizers.
He also uses the program to strengthen the cooperative executive members to stand firm and impact the knowledge to other members of their respective communities.
