The Complementary Education Agency (CEA) branch in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region as part of it’s Municipal Literacy Day has graduated 354 lerners who has been given informal education for three to four years.
The theme for the 2023 International Literacy Day is “Promoting Literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies,”
Hon. Paul Andoh, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area thanked staffs of the Complementary Education Agency in the Municipality for their hard work.
He said learning is extremely important to teaching. If the learners are not able to learn and acquire knowledge, teaching is considered to be ineffective. Hence, teaching and learning is a process that cannot exist without the other.
He added that “As you develop a new skill, you’ll gain courage and confidence, which helps you override fear and anxiety. You’ll feel more empowered.” It keeps you healthy. “Learning is great for your brain at every age,”.
He continued that the current support for CEA is entering a new phase and the Assembly will take on the leadership and funding of the programme either by funding directly or through working in partnership with others to ensure that the programme will go on to benefit other Communities.
He therefore stressed that the program is paving the way for Ghana to attain Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) and is providing the opportunity for all people to access basic education in some of the hardest to reach deprived Communities in the Municipality.
Mr. Biri Emmanuel, the Municipal Complementary Education Agency Officer explained that they are graduation 354 lerners.
He said the program has been truly transformational for many people who were not unable to go to school due to poverty, distance to schools or family demands to learn basic literacy and numeracy skills and then transition back into primary school. This has given them a second chance at an education and the opportunity to transform their lives.
