Fire razed parts of the Bibiani main market in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
The fire out break according to eyewitness occurred in the dawn at about 3:15 am on today Friday August 25, and raged on for a while before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived to help quench the inferno.
The cause of the ravaging fire, which destroyed many shops and Warehouse, was not immediately known.
Traders were thrown into a state of shock and sadness as most of the market Women who plied their business activities in the market claimed their entire trading capital had been wiped off.
Some of the traders who had closed their shops at the time trooped to the market centre when news of the fire outbreak got to them.
They attempted to salvage some of their wares from their shops, but to no avail.
Most of them could not help it, but burst into uncontrollable tears as they assessed how much they had lost to the inferno.
The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal branch of the Ghana National Fire Service Subordinate officer Mr. Richmond Appiah speaking with Hamza Mohammed explained that “We received a distress call in the early hours of this morning (Friday) from one Mr. Harrison Akwah Afful at about 4:10 am that there was a fire outbreak at shops and Werehouse,”.
“Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched a fire engine to the scene to bring the fire under control, “he said.
He said there were no casualty but items destroyed in the incidents include electrical gadgets, bags of ground nuts,corn milling machines and cash among others.
Though he could not immediately estimate the value of the goods lost in the incident, and however advised residents to be more careful using instruments that could trigger fire incidents in their neighbourhoods or work places.
