A 44-year-old businesswoman with four pretty daughters has been coronated as the Akyempim Hemaah of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region under a stool name, Nana Esi Ahemaah II.
Mrs.Esi Ahemaah name succeeded her mother, who died about many years ago.
The young woman was installed in front of a large crowd of people from far and near who gathered at Sefwi Bekwai to witness the traditional occasion.
Queen mothers from various traditional councils, the Clergy, politicians, civil and public servants as well as the public. In display was a panorama of activities to showcase the richness of the Ghanaian culture.
The occasion saw Nana Esi Ahemaah II dressed in exotic kente cloth with varied colours, sitting in state to receive dignitaries. The event created a unique platform for exhibiting the rich Sefwi and Ghanaian culture, with traditional drummers and dancers displaying their art with passion.
Following her coronation, the new Queen mother thanked her predecessors, as well as the chiefs and people of the traditional area, for entrusting him with such a venerable role.
Nana Esi Ahemaah II promised to always be available to the people, especially the traditional council, in times of need.
Nana Esi Ahemaah II emphasised the education and protection of the girl-child is a collective effort that should be championed by men.
She says the idea of men seeing the girl-child as a mere sex object is hampering the empowerment of girls to be confident and well educated.
She applauded parents for the high enrollment of children in local schools but entreated fathers to play the lead role in the education of their children.
She said some parents complained bitterly about the financing of their children’s education but were able to buy every funeral cloth that came their way gleefully.
According to her, the men were largely responsible for school dropouts and teenage pregnancies and asked them not to forsake their families.
She also advised elderly men who lured vulnerable under aged girls into sexual relationships to stop before they were exposed and punished.
Nana Marfo Panyin, the Chief of Sefwi Bekwai Chiraa who doubles as the Adontenhene of Sefwi Bekwai traditional area, urged the new Queen mother to remain loyal to the clan and accountable to the Family.
He also urged her to remember to seek their help in times of difficulty in order to make his reign a success.
“Queen mothers don’t figure in public ooo, Queen mothers don’t eat in the public ooo so be vigilant,” he added.
The Special Guest Of Honor , Hon.Johnson Asiedu Nkatia popularly known as The General Mosquito the National the Democratic Congress NDC National Chairman could not attend the program so his own biological son Hon Charlse Akwasi Asiedu the NDC parliamentary Candidate for Tano South on behalf of his father congratulated the Queen and wished her the best in her reign.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the traditional rulers not to fear to criticize the ruling government whenever things go wrong because they are the owners of the land.
He presented undisclosed amount of money to support the program.
The chairman for the occasion was Mr Clement Asamoah popularly known as Papa Sly a businessman advised the youth in the area to stay away from negative behaviours that could ruin their future.
He admonished them to direct their energies into productive ventures rather than indulging in acts that tarnished their image and that of the community.
The Delegation who attended the ceremony included Mr Rex Asamoah Twum, COCOBOD National Organizer, Mr.Simon Kwabena Agyemang WNR NDC Director of Elections, Hon S. K Kwakye – Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai constituency NDC Vice Chairman, Lawyer Stephen Kingsley Bennieh WNR NDC Research Officer,Mr Yaw Marfo Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai NDC Youth Organizer, Madam Adizatu Mohammed Women Organizer,Mrs Linda Asamoah Twum Deputy women Organiser, Mr Yaw Gyening Ernest Deputy Organizer and Mr Seth Gyedu Deputy secretary.
