The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipality of the Western North region has step up coverage of fire prevention and safety awareness education in the to stem the tide of fire outbreaks.
The campaign forms part of renewed efforts by the GNFS towards educating residents about the occurrence of fires to create a safe environment for the people of the Municipality.
Division Officer (II) Enock Tetteh, the Municipal Fire Commander speaking during Jummah Friday Prayers at Bibiani Central Mosque, said fire outbreak increased when there was an increase in economic and social activities, a reality during the yuletide.
He explained the concepts of fire safety to the gathering and underscored the essence of ensuring that all electrical gadgets were handled with care whilst optimum procedures were observed during cooking at home.
He stressed that public education programmes were critical and therefore expressed the determination of the GNFS to continually educate the public to help reduce the menace, especially in homes and public places.
Generally, He urged to residents to implement and adhere to fire safety education for the objective to be achieved, since fire safety was a shared responsibility.
Mr. Mustapha Frimpong, the Western North Regional Energy Commissioner on his part said, any uncertified electrician that will be caught wiring a building in the country may be jailed for a maximum of two years.
“This punitive measure follows the Energy Commission’s full enforcement of the Electrical Wiring Regulation 2011(L.I.2008) which debars unlicensed electricity from wiring house” he added.
He appealed to the public to contact them for professional house wiring services than approaching quack electricians for poor work that can led to fire outbreak.
IMAM Mohammed Muniru Adam Musah, the Municipal Chief Imam on behalf of the Bibiani Central Mosque congratulated fire fighters for the education.
He, therefore, used the opportunity to advise individuals to take good care of what has been taught to help deal with fire outbreaks.
