A medical Doctor has implored the public to identify persons living with Tuberculosis (TB) that had not been identified yet.
During the celebration of World TB day in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, Dr. Kingsley Osei-Kwakye, the Western North Regional Deputy Director of Public Health, made a plea while held at Sefwi Debiso.
He proclaimed the need to find people living with the disease is higher within the region, especially in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal.
This year’s celebration was on the Theme “it’s time.. Find the people living with TB”.
Mr. Kingsley mentioned that the health ministry and its partners were poised to implement a TB prevention treatment for vulnerable people, starting from persons at higher risk.
The World TB day is celebrated each year across the globe in March to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB and encourage all nations to step up efforts in ending the disease. He Cautioned the public not to desist from treating prolong coughing at the prayer centers but rather attend to any nearby health facility.
The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Diseases Control Officer, Mrs. Doris Veromi disclosed that the Health Directorate recorded 135 cases in 2021 whilst 105 cases were also recorded in 2022 and many were still on drugs.
She added that signs such as constant coughing , and tiredness, among others, are symptoms of tuberculosis (TB).
She stressed that the government has enrolled all TB patients in treatment for free on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure that all patients got comprehensive care and are treated for other morbidities to reduce death cases.
Nana Kwaku Mahu II, the Chief of Sefwi Debiso who chaired the occasion, praised the Municipal Health Directorate for organizing such a medical community outreach programme in his Community and call on residents, especially mothers, not to treat prolonged cough in children as ordinary.
“ All that they have taught us today means the disease is around.TB is real. I will plead with the public including myself to attend to the hospital whenever we are coughing and have a text to check whether it is TB or not as it is dangerous and can kill”.
