The Queen Mother of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council in the Bibiani Ahwianso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Nana Abena Aniwaa II, has been called to serve on the Regional Peace Council Board and Western North Regional Health Directorate Board on COVID-19.
She was nominated by Mr. Richard Obeng Ebbah, in accordance with section 9(b) of the National Peace Council Act, 2011(Act 818) of the constitution.
Nana Abena Aniwaa II, was a member of the National Dialogues Mobilization and Education for referendum towards the creation of the Western North Region.
In her address with the media, Nana Abena Aniwaa II appealed to Ghanaian political leaders to consider women participation in decision-making and gender equality, since women are knowledgeable, intelligent and above all capable poised to achieve greater heights.
She added that without women participation in the public discourse or decision making process, it would be difficult for Ghana to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal on women empowerment.
She emphasised that though few women have made greater strides in Ghana’s political sphere, she believe the numbers are very insignificant and low which is adversely affecting the process of improving the legal and regulatory framework for promoting gender equity and equality.
She, therefore, called on all women groups to seek God for knowledge, wisdom and work hard to achieve a better future instead of being used to get exposed to the world.
